At the beginning with Francisco Lagarto, diabetic, a future blue O member.

Blood sugar before going to Monsanto Roman roadway ascending. Before we ascending the blood sugar supplying the body in the respective zone.

Overlooking the plain horizon. Downhill the track was a roadway made by Romans, left by the time they were here.

Pedaladas boas,
casf

English:

Good rides,

blue O was last weekend in the “VII Trilhos da Raia”, with more and more athletes, this year with Marco Chagas, Sergio Paulinho and Carlos Baltazar, over more 700 MTB riders.

I know it Idanha a Nova relatively well, the village, it went there when as a kid, on the summer holidays at my grandparents' house. This year I came back with the idea to try the 70km marathon, when I never training for this purpose, I will take some risk.

These Trilhos I introduce the region to a new friend (blue O too - diabetic) from Évora city, first time on these trails, he became a fan. The dorsal were caught on Saturday, already after 7 p.m. so on Sunday morning was easy to take some space on the departure.

Dusty, really dusty, it will haven't rain for months and even the heat. The first was the cause for some falls, some with complications, it was necessary to call ambulances, various distributed along the tracks.

The large number of MTB cyclist caused some constraints... on the course fluidity, especially in the 1st supply area, where the ACIN organization served lots of fruit, water, juices, biscuits (borrachões - regional cakes, "madalenas"), cereal bars with and without protein, in resume, very varied.

In the initial kms I spoke with a friend who ran for Cebolais village that commented to me most of details about 70km marathon, the separation of bought tracks were made at 20km, hesitating, I turned down following a long-sought desire, to see if I could stand cycling a 70km marathon.

My main concern was the all distance associated with a low blood sugar that it was going to break me and nullify the possibility of achieving the objective, because of that I has taken the FreeStyle Lite device from Abbott.

In this track the distance between "runners" were longer, so, less dust and after a few kms my friend Domingos he got me, who was encouraging me, immediately, noting my apprehension, he told me to remove the display of kms, we stopped to eat together and another incentive reaching to Monsanto to the 2nd supply zone where I arrived really weak, my blood sugar so indicated.

Another "madalena" cake, plenty of water, banana, a protein bars and my VITARGO gel, partly inserted in the water bottle, it was enough to get me to the top of the Monsanto Roman roadway and descend on the same type of stones, till Idanha a Velha village, the 3rd and last supplied zone (water, banana, orange) and follow towards my goal, at the time it was 2 p.m. and something.

Doubting from my legs asked for some break they weren't resigned, still responding to what I asked for and more climbs after Marchal Carmona Dam, some years we do it by descending through a loose black earth mixed with stones, even more complicated.

I arrived on 217 position passed 5:54:02h cycling at an average of 15.1km/h travelled 74.12Km with 3989Kcal consumed an AVG of 135, according to my Polar.

Without a right training for this type of marathon I had luck, while having lunch at after noon tee time, 4 p.m. I was glad with the "last" of the year. Again I WIN on my fighting to my DIABETES, acting on it.

Rides good,
