Trilhos da Cortiçada - Proença a Nova

Trilhos da Cortiçada 22/9/2013

Boas pedaladas,

As subidas iam começar...

- Ah, e faz a vindima?

Antes do almoço torno a medir 144 mg/dL.

Nesta semana de EASD - 49th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes discutem-se, apresentam-se diversos estudos, relatórios.

Desabafei!!!

Pedaladas do melhor,

Good cycling,

Be invited to participate in an event based on a memory from the “diabetic rider" last year, it was very good, I was so proud!

The 15 days prior to September 22nd, I "settled badly" some ribs, which led me to ibupofreno 600mg, just before the MTB ride - Trilhos da Cortiçada - On Mills Route in Proença-a-Nova.

This year's theme was "pedalling through which cereal was grinded" and so it was during the 60km , 35km or 15km, kids do not find funny the water lines passages, much less "the wall to the mill"...

Fasting I had 146 mg/dL, I decreased the basal and I didn’t had fast. Raised my dorsal, drank coffee with a custard tart, with a unit of fast insulin... Perhaps the number of events, distributed in the region, we were "few but good ones", where the first cycling’s were to determine right pace.

Separation tracks occurred just before first 25km, already grouped in "Tomar team", on 1st supply zone I had 133 mg/dL. I redid my VITARGO, drank cola and water, two sausage sandwiches, a cereal bar, dry cake, fruit… Climbs were going to start...
All this watching the following dialogue - the story is almost trustworthy - Fernando, from Tomar city, started:
- So, Mr you have grapes?
- Yes! (He replay with precise name and location where stood the vineyards)...
- Oh, and does the vintage? The other day we help a friend from Tomar...
- Of course I do.
- Here we only have water and juices, not even beer!!!
The two organization guys reported they wanted that too, but this year there were no chance. Another local "stress" they - organization - had all drunk last night. They persist "when we came yesterday to mark the track, stopping at all "taverns" has its consequences"...
In the middle of my bites, I was pissed off with me not having a machine to record all...
- And could we have a little to taste it?
- From my “drips”? I’ll fetch a carboy...
- Just to taste it!!!
The two organizations members said: "Oh man, now we have to stay longer, and you where the last from the big marathon!"
- Yes Sir, it's a good “drop”. Next year you say when, we came to help the harvest and take the test again!...
I quote a last sentence at the end of this supply - from the most emotive I attended to - notable the way it was said: "You could carry a couple of flies, there are plenty here!"

After about 10km, next the track - on a rural road - was perfectly installed a group of friends who prepared something:
Tomar take forward:
- There are here someone who do the vintage?
- Oh!!! Don’t tell the others track is here! Of course there is wine to drink? Do you want?...
- If there is, we can taste it! These pans are bigger!?
- Only there's soup (the pot boiling potatoes and Portuguese kales)...

Watching the last episode and because my "cycling is from another ride type", I followed with the certainty that I would pick up later on. Every time I come to Proença the heat squeezes hard, which leads to a constant hydration, aided by several sources distributed along the route. The accumulated was increasing, and again in the village of Pergulho, if there had been a separation of races, there, again we joined. Overhead was the windmill, all recovered by Proença-a-Nova Forest Producers Association. On this 2nd supply I hydrated, eat a banana and dry cake, from here 10km to the end.

In the end I knew by an organization member, the chanfana - a Portuguese dish with old meat - was well served, "Tomar team" had stayed to taste it, arriving at windmill a little delayed.

Hadn’t hypo or hyper records which are good. Because I do an amateur training, I have regular stops to portray my texts and, at the same time, help me recover some efforts - with little total ascent in road train... In this week EASD - 49th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, discussing, presenting, and reporting several studies. Prevention is the most needed. Greater access for all diabetics to infusion pumps and not so recent the Continuous blood Glucose Meters - CGM...

Unburdened!!

Cycling good,

Triatlo do Fundão 1 Set 2013

Estendi as braçadas e acalmei-me, fui ao meu ritmo...

Saí da água já só havia umas 6 bikes, comecei com a banana e agarro na bike - esse era o pior troço do trajeto de bicicleta - no fim da descida sinto uma pancada forte e seca na roda da frente. Imediatamente sinto a roda traseira em baixo - não transcrevo o que pensei - e procedo à troca da camara de ar, já era o ultimo quando o carro da GNR, que fechava o percurso, me pergunta;
- Está tudo bem?
- Sim, sim, já enchi o pneu, arranco já! #&%$&/$..

A intensidade do esforço é anaeróbio. A ver vamos! Já o Terminator o disse na hora certa: “I’ll be back!”

Desporto bom,
casf

I had a swimming practice.

I ask a triathlon equipment loaned to blue O Sérgio Moreira, and I sweated enough training.

I prepared myself for two weeks in an attempt to copy the transitions, except for swimming, logistics don’t let me do everything! In my amateur version, but sports passionate, triathlon, it was part of those to try. Currently it feels like I have it traversed in my throat...

I struggled to not forget anything at home - transitions and the material to leave on the parks left me stressed. At fasting I had 152mg/dl, whit I would expend in sport effort, I didn’t touched in sweets and put one unit of fast insulin, and reduce 2 base units.

My stress galloped, whiles leaving my sneakers on Transitional Park 1, my Canyon Ultimate AL was already in the truck who carry the bikes. I went to the bus out to Capinha dam. With the 4 athletes I spoke - veterans - everyone tranquilized me, one is my friend.

Already in the dam I was seeking dorsal, swim cap and ship.
At TP2 I put everything in the basket - barely went off the water - shoes, helmet, sunglasses, Vitargo Electrolyte, energy bar, banana and I measure glucose blood; up, UP: 322mg/dL!! Nerves rise or not glucose blood? Suddenly bursts a tire on a bicycle and athletes motion to see who need to replace, immediately a tire. Everything was running high, I had to calm down with 2 fast units...

From 150 athletes, maybe 10 we were not federated. With no wetsuit and without legs shaving done, I “get informed” that I would have “to give more strokes!" On the water and after the start, I tried not to mess with the feeling that it is not unknown, it isn’t usual - go after others - still nervous, it seemed I had a hypo - hadn’t nothing to eat - but there were organization boats, some athletes were next to the other, the firsts made a strange noise from the cluster and the speed of their strokes. I spread out my strokes and calmed down, I went to my pace...

I left the water there were only about 6 bikes, I started with the banana and grab the bike - that was the worst stretch of the bike path - on descent end I felt a sharp blow in the front wheel. Immediately I feel the rear wheel down - I don’t transcribe what I thought - and proceed to exchange inner tube, it was when GNR car (National Republic Guard), which closed the route, ask me;
- Everything is all right?
- Yes, yes, I filled the tube, I leave now! #&%$&/$... After all no, I have front wheel down too!
- Give up?
- Yah... can’t continue like that!

This was my 1st triathlon experience, different from what I'm used to, MTB. If all goes well, this sprint version in 1:30h is finished, different from 4/5hours while cycling when I’m doing 70km, for example... In these examples, diabetes control has different parameters. Consultation with friends is very profitable.

Insulin units basal and fast should be the same as a normal day. This exercise intensity is anaerobic. A banana before, gel and isotonic drink should be enough to didn’t have a hypo. We'll see! Terminator told us on the right time: "I'll be back!"

Good sport,
casf
