VII Trilhos da Açafa, Vila Velha de Ródão

Boas pedaladas,

- “Vila Velha!”

Pedaladas boas,
casf

My english version:

Good cycling,

After last year re-edition, I went to "VII Açafa Tracks", a few years ago was known for offering, also, a super breakfast, which difficult went out of the tables...

I woke up with a hypoglicemia - 53 mg/dL - an hour and a half from the start (9a.m.), I had time to recover with a rich breakfast with assorted cereals, some more sugar than others, and the coffee sugar package detail, at home there is no sugar bowl. I dint toke fast and reduce Lantus insulin, 16 when I usually give 28 (Information note: these doses are mine and in no circumstances should be interpreted by itself, it's the knowledge that I develop with my diabetes).

Nearly 300 MTB riders went through, some to 45K and others, like me, with the aim of 65K, leaving me worried for my "cycling condition" that is little
.
My tree chainset still leaves me confused and at a disadvantage before 29'' wheel - I miss "my" old bike - but the course was continuous, and as always, with photos and stop in all supplies areas, talking and enjoying from the presented food.

Since 1st supply where at 30K, on the middle a water point - about 15K - I toke a gel and continued, always in the company of some known riders from other events; "Lobos do pedal" and two BTT Gardunha elements...

With no fast in the morning, a "sugary" breakfast, drinking my Vitargo Electrolyte, a energy gel on 15K I arrive at to the solid supply with 82 mg/dL, cycling pace.

Diluted juice, dry cakes, a banana, one mixed sandwich, some talk, some pictures, I ask and they answer me; "Carlos, the worst is the São Gens rise, you are on the middle", "Ok. Thank you".

When turning to 65K it was António Pequito, shooting photos to riders. I stopped, I gave him my late birthday congratulations, we talked a little ... "Look, it's just that rise" - another picture - "then it's always rolling."

In reality was even better, performed single tracks for us and some quick climbs, in which returned me my 29'' miss, are much easier with this wheel, I confess.

Arrived at 2nd supply, you could hear an ambulance. With food on our hands, the typical conversations started:
- "So, where are you came from?"
- "Vila Velha de Ródão..."
- "Oh, this I know! Where are from?"
-. "Aveiro" Luís Carlos answered...

As we ate Paula, Luis's wife - inseparable couple on every MTB event, they went to "recovery" from Geo Tour last weekend - has become the target. A lady from supply assistance, pregnant, said:
- "I'm just waiting for this one to be born, and then here I go again!!!"

While all this was going I find the n. 001 of the event. To prove it I toke a photo.
Warned us of the danger ahead and we followed.

One of the most technical spots was the INEM (National Institute Medical Emergency), already with several rescuers back of a fellow who fortunately went to hospital only to confirm was nothing serious, will have a good story and probable a real abdominal pains...

A very nice MTB marathon, precisely what they have accustomed us. Our group only by the end began to walk away, who was light rising fast, the heavy ones down much faster but fellowship was always present.

Good rides,
